We took the kids to the Virginia State Fair today. We had a great morning walking around collecting bits and pieces of "stuff" that a certain little fellow will spend HOURS sorting through. We cheered on the pigs at our first ever pig race (we are true Virginians' now...) and watched a guy dive 80 feet into a tiny little pool. Bought the mandatory kettle corn and sipped the most delicious limeade I've had since Singapore/Malaysia days. And then it all fell apart... Nikolas just couldn't keep it together on the kiddy rides. We dragged him, screaming, from the midway after just one ride. So much for the unlimited rides of the wristband!
Many of you have requested pictures of the house we are purchasing. It has been pulled off the MLS listing so I've posted pictures in my photo album here. It's a 4 bed/3 bath house. We've decided that the loft, which is off the back staircase from the family room, will become the playroom/craft room. There is a fairly sizable window dormer that I'll use for my scrapbook space. Will find space for the sewing table... The 3rd floor finished room with full bath will be the guest room until Nikolas is old enough to move up there. The back yard is already fenced and has a playset. It doesn't have as much grass as we would have liked but the trees provide nice shade and protection. A good place for a fire pit and hammock. The kitchen has built in seats at the window that is very cozy.
Nikolas has chosen his room; the one that currently has bunk beds in it. It's the larger of the two bedrooms on the second floor. He is excited to decorate it in a space theme. We've even found plans for a space shuttle bed that he has requested his Daddy construct for him. Looks like Michael has his work cut out for him as there is neither basement nor room in the 2 car garage for MummyMobile and woodshop...
Yesterday we went to a carpet showroom and invested a small fortune in carpet for the family room, back stairs and loft. The rest of the carpet in the house will be cleaned until we have recovered from the financial set back! Guess that's what we get for our champagne taste, eh? Somehow this "used" house (not new construction as we're accustomed to) that was supposed to save us money doesn't seem to be doing that. It costs a fair amount to clean up somebody else's house! Just different expenses; trade duct cleaning, new carpet, window cleaning and new toilet seats for blinds, shades, granite, nickel hardware, etc.
Anyway, hope you had a great weekend! Happy Birthday Moriah! Happy Anniversary Michael (we're doing a re-do of today when we have a babysitter...)!
