Today was the last full day of Kindergarten for our little man. It was also his first swim meet. What a day!
I left work early to attend the Kindergarten picnic. Mrs Templeton had some wonderful surprises waiting for us; a poem, a slide show, certificates and some wonderful year end booklets. We gave her the scrapbook that I had made on behalf of her first Kindergarten class. She cried. I cried. I think a fair number of us parents cried... Mrs Templeton has been a wonderful teacher with so much enthusiasm and sincerity. We lucked out. She has set the bar high and is quite a match to meet.
After an afternoon playdate with a recovery hour lounging on the couch watching Arthur, we car pooled with our neighbor to the Twin Hickory pool. Mayhem! Absolute mayhem! Boy did it bring back some memories for me. My little man swimming in his first swim meet. We had his times from the Mini Meet where he learned the ins and outs of a meet. And he beat them both! He came in 5th over in the 6 and under boys 25m backstroke, he finished first in his heat, earning himself a lollipop. His 25m freestyle was okay. Faster than his Mini Meet time and much better pulling and breathing than I've seen. He came second in his heat. Not sure where he placed overall as we left. 9:35pm and we're taking our kids home from Nikolas' first meet. You did good Budz! I'm proud of you! Taking after your Mum in your stroke preference and excellance!
