Day one hanging with Irene has come and gone, mostly. And, we have survived. We still love each other and the tree is still standing. Though, it did reach about half mast at some point during it's violent hurls and twirls in the wind...
Michael took the kids out this morning to pick up one last, final provision to add to our stash. The most important! Things weren't so bad this morning. The rain was falling and the wind was blowing, but tame in comparison to the madness out there now. The kids had on their gum boots whilst all three were snug in their rain coats.
In addition to dress ups and fort building, many a game has been played. The Nintendo DS's saw some playtime in the fort and are now back on their chargers. Nikolas was eager to play Monopoly. I was invited and kindly declined with scrapbooking and burning 5 months worth of back up picture DVD's being my excuse. Dad, however, had no good excuse! Houses were bought and sold, rents paid and the wind STILL whipped the tree outside my scrapbook window around!
Dinner was had in front of the TV, we still have power, while eating pizza and our 2nd round of cupcakes! There was a bit of back and forth over which of the 18 or so movies borrowed from the library in preparation for the storm was suitable for family viewing and to be the pick of the evening. There was final consensus upon "The Diary of a Wimpy Kid". No wimpy kids here, they have been outstanding. Under the circumstances!
Michael decided that Mia's room has the potential to be unsafe. IF anything is going to happen at the back of the house. And, with all the wind and rain, who wouldn't want company anyway, right? So she has a little bed on the floor in Nikolas' room. She is happy as a clam! As the lanterns are all charged up for emergency illumination, might as well use 'em! We huddled around said lantern and sang campfire songs! 99 bottles of blood on the wall, 99 bottles of blood, take a sip, pass it around, 99 bottles of beer on the wall!
Night night! Hope the power is still on and the tree still standing tomorrow... Supposedly, the worst is yet to come. I know because Michael has been standing vigil at the laptop, checking the latest updates at least hourly!
