This afternoon Mia and I had a "girl's afternoon out". She has been particularly difficult lately and I thought that perhaps some special time alone might be the key to turning things around. Besides, I didn't think the boys would be all that keen on the Princess Disney on Ice show... Mia had no idea what was going on until we walked from the parking lot to the Coliseum; many of the little girls were decked out in their princess finest.
My new camera ROCKS!! My ISO goes high enough that I shot all these shots without the flash, in the dark. Of moving subjects. In the dark! Did I say that already? LOL!! Simply awesome. I don't need this many pictures of the random people skating. But it was a fantastic exercise in capturing poorly lit, fast moving subjects! Even better, there was very little manipulation necessary once uploaded. These are pretty much straight out of camera! And not shot in RAW either!!
Mia, as usual, was riveted; perched at the edge of her seat. We saw the stories of Princess and the Pea, Cinderella and Tangled. The show wrapped up with a grand finale with all princess and their princes strutting their stuff on the ice. There was even a brief "wow" of indoor fireworks over the castle!! Quite the show stopper for my little princess!
I was amazed at how commercial these things are... Sad really. A woman next to me with two little girls had already bought a doll of an unknown amount. But in the brief time we sat there, awaiting the lights to dim and the show to begin, she spent $24 on two bags of cotton candy with decoratable crowns and another $10 on a tub of popcorn! She had the $15 program sitting in her lap too boot! The tickets weren't all that cheap... Fortunately, I came equipped with $1 lollipop, PopTarts and a bottle of water. I spent nothing and refused to spend anything more. Equally fortunate, Mia well understood that I was not going to shell out any money outrageously overpriced food or unnecessary clap trap! And we still had a wonderful time!
We came home to the lovely smell of simmering chili!! Fall is definitely in the air! Da Bears are on TV, the boys are camped in front of the TV!
Hope your weekend was fantastic!
