What a day!! What a few days!!
Friday morning we (my kids and my temporarily adoptive child for the weekend, Jasper, Nikolas' BFF) got up at the crack of dawn and hit the road! The 64 West to be specific. Followed by a few more following that. The front end of the journey was a bit... well... Let's just say that Mia's need to stop every hour (at each rest stop she saw, the down side to her ability to read) we had to stop so she could relieve herself. And my blood pressure could climb! Fortunately for her, and the with holding of liquid, things did not continue as they started and we made excellent time!
An early arrival afforded us time to head to the preview night of the Indianapolis Air Show. The promise of tethered hot air balloon rides was encouraging enough to get all the kids back on the road again... Unfortunately, the wind was rather uncooperative at first, thus delaying the ability to inflate the hot air balloon. The one balloon which all of us in line were to ride. When our roughly 8:30pm ride still hadn't gotten off the ground at 10pm and there was likely another hour wait, we got a refund and headed home... Disappointing but the kids were good sports about it.
Today began with a lot of fun and games in and around the house. Hide and go seek, scooters, the attempt at riding a two wheel bike for the first time, fleeting though that was (thank God, I was not prepared to chase her around grabbing the end of the bike while worrying about the newly healed broken arm!) and other such entertaining events.
Next on the agenda; Day 2 of the Indianapolis Air Show! Tickets printed at home, water bottles in cooler, and a quick toss of the iTouches into the camera back and back to the air field we went! Japser's first ever air show. We threw a picnic blanket on the ground, opened up all the (rain) umbrellas I had in the mini van to provide some respite from the scourching sun and we were good. For 10 minutes... Lunch beckoned the little bellies so off in search of nourishment they went. Hot dogs for all except Granny and I who had chicken gyros. We watched for a while, we wandered up nearer to the runway, we tossed umbrellas around, we played iTouch, we did all sorts of things. We each ate a full 4 serving size lemon-lime sorbet type thing!! We wandered and picked up freebies. All the while, trying to stay hydrated and under the shade of the umbrellas. Thank goodness I had the number I did in the car. The Thunderbirds wrapped things up and off went. Eary in the que to depart, before the end of the grand finale!
Too shattered from the heat and minding of hot and bothered children to think about dinner, never mind execute, we picked up salads and sandwiches from McAllisters on the way home. All in the name of making it to the movie I promised to take them too. We saw Brave. Eh... Wasn't all that great but it was okay. Entertaining and relaxing after a hot afternoon in the sun.
All in all, a great day. A jam packed great day!
