Today was a much anticipated day in the Lee-Bishop household for a certain little girl!! Today was the day that she donned her jeans, long sleeve shirt (the only one that fits her), her fleece jacket, newly purchased pink gloves and her bike helmet. To go to her first ice skating lesson!
First there was the thrill of putting on the skates and watching the Zamboni prep the ice just for the lessons. Then there was the rink side preparation of practicing getting up from the "crash and burn". A necessary skill that took quite some time for Mia to master. She fell a lot in the beginning. And it was a struggle to get up. Down she went, up she climbed, down she went, and so on. It took her a while but she eventually managed to pop right back up. And through it all, she smiled. That cheshire cat grin stretching from ear to ear. Not once did she cry. Not once did she express anything even remotely close to frustration. She enjoyed every second of the 30 minutes that that class lasted! It's been a while since I've seen such joy and enthusiasm from her and it was such a treat!
Thar she goes!! Down to the cold ice. She later told me the ice wasn't too cold.
Hoist me up teacher! I'm trying and I can't get up!
Not quite sure what's happened to my vertical pictures, sorry about that... I have been messing around with the picture settings, you might have noticed. Things seem to have gone awry... Will have to fiddle around more tomorrow.
Franken-skaters!! With her Purple group friends, marching across the ice with great pride!
There is 15 minutes of free skate time after the lessons where the kids are allowed to practice their newly acquired skills. Off she went to practice her Franken-skater moves!! She didn't fall and that smile was still plastered across her sweet face!
Nikolas has decided that he, too, wants to learn to skate!!
Glad she loved it! All of my kids went through all the way to free skate when we lived in Omaha - a great experience!
