I have another 8.5x11 layout to share with you today! I was inspired by the cut apart cards from Bella Blvd's Oh My Stars collection but wasn't able to buy embellies to coordinate. This little dilemma was easily solved by going into my stash and using elements from previous, older collections as well as creating my own. Not having a local store means shopping at stores when off on adventures or online. When at other stores, one usually is left with the left overs and the embellishments are always amongst the first things to disappear. So getting creative is often the end result. I'm pleased with how this turned out, I hope you are too!
It's rare that I create a layout where the colors of the pictures don't somehow influence the color palate that I create with. This is one of those rare exceptions. There were three cut apart cards that inspired this color palate resulting in hot pink, greens and black as the colors of creation. The black really helped ground the layout and softened the starkness of the black door and railing in the photo against the white background.
Another technique that helped to soften the contrast of photo and design was using texture or modeling paste on the white background. I added some Heidi Swapp Shine to the white paste and was able to customize the shade of pink and add a few more flowers to the layout. I was rather non-discriminate in how I applied the paste to the stencil, just wanting some color.
In order to create balance on the page, I created a second flower using the innard of the flower on the cut apart card and a die that I ran through my Big Shot. I also fussy cut the big heart that says "love" from the innard of the hot pink cut apart card whose border you see poking out from behind the photo. When elements are scarce, it's easy to find alternative ways to make your stash stretch as I did here.
There isn't any journaling on the front of the page as I wanted to tell the whole story; how he decided to propose, how she had been waiting forever, how it all went down. It was a lengthy story that was too much for the front of the page. If you flip the page over, the whole story (from my perspective) is on the back.
How do you create your scrapbook pages; do photo colors dictate the colors you create with or do you use any old photo(s) with any old collection? I really enjoyed the freedom of using a different color palate than those in the photo but definitely had to find a way to tie that into the photo somehow. I might just change up my approach!
Thanks for stopping in today!
